Everything you need to know about using Chameleon

Getting Started

Chameleon is designed to be simple and intuitive. Just drag and drop your files onto the app icon or main window, and we'll handle the conversion automatically.

  1. Download Chameleon from the App Store or our website
  2. Open the app and grant necessary permissions when prompted
  3. Drag your files onto Chameleon to convert them
  4. Choose your output format from the dropdown menu
  5. Click "Convert" and your files will be processed instantly

Supported Formats

Documents

PDF, DOCX, TXT, RTF, ODT, HTML, Markdown, EPUB, LaTeX, and more

Images

JPEG, PNG, HEIC/HEIF, GIF, BMP, TIFF, WebP, AVIF, SVG, ICO, and more

Videos

MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, WebM, FLV, WMV, MPEG, and more

Audio

MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, OGG, WMA, M4A, AIFF, and more

Optional Dependencies

While Chameleon includes most conversion tools built-in, some advanced features require additional software:

for PDF Conversion

Required for converting documents to PDF format using LaTeX typesetting. Provides professional-quality PDF output with advanced formatting options.

Installation via Homebrew:

brew install --cask mactex-no-gui

Note: This is a large download (~4GB). Alternatively, you can install the full MacTeX from tug.org/mactex

Package Manager

Homebrew is the easiest way to install command-line tools on macOS. If you don't have it installed yet:

/bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/HEAD/install.sh)"

Tips & Tricks

  • Hold ⌥ (Option) while dropping files to access advanced conversion settings
  • Drag multiple files at once for batch conversion
  • Use Quick Actions in Finder by right-clicking files and selecting "Convert with Chameleon"
  • Set up keyboard shortcuts in System Settings > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > Services
